Memberships are a billing product
A membership programme is recurring billing with service entitlements attached. The failure modes are billing failure modes: declined cards that are never retried, credits that do not roll over as promised, and member pricing that does not apply automatically at checkout.
Test these six behaviours in the demo
Ask the vendor to demonstrate each one rather than describe it.
- A declined payment and the automatic retry sequence
- A banked credit rolling into the next month
- Member pricing applying automatically at point of sale
- A mid-cycle upgrade with proration
- Cancellation with remaining credits handled correctly
- A churn report showing members lost in a period
Report membership revenue separately
Membership revenue behaves differently from visit revenue and should be reported separately. If the platform cannot separate them, your revenue reporting will mislead you about the health of the business.
